Production of pinot noir in New Zealand is still a recent phenomenon, a couple of decades old. Marlborough is the commercial center of the New Zealand wine industry—and better known for its Sauvignon Blanc—but it also grows almost half of all the Pinot Noir in New Zealand. It is the home of broad, flat vineyard expanses, relatively large companies and Pinot Noirs that often deliver excellent value.
Perfect with roast duck or a contrasting dish of smoked eel and buerre blanc covered potatoes.
